Monster is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa. It revolves around Kenzo Tenma, a Japanese surgeon living in Düsseldorf, Germany whose life enters turmoil after getting himself involved with Johan Liebert, one of his former patients, who is revealed to be a psychopathic serial killer. The series was published in Shogakukan's manga magazine Big Comic Original from December 1994 to December 2001. The chapters were collected in 18 tankōbon volumes. In addition to the manga, Urasawa also wrote and illustrated the novel Another Monster, which provides an alternate perspective on the events of the manga from an investigative reporter's point of view and was published in 2002.
